Yorkshire Choice Awards Chooses Simon on The Streets

The 5th Yorkshire Choice Awards will take place on 14th March at the Centenary Pavilions, Elland Road, Leeds United.  (Editor’s Note:  This event has been postponed until later in the year.)

Funds raised at the awards ceremony will this year be donated to Simon on The Streets, a charity serving the homeless of Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield, and as chosen charity partner, they will be joined by 800 people at the ceremony.

The public chooses award-winners from over 300 nominees, covering 12 categories, such as Inspiration, Fundraising, Sport and Business.

Past charity partners are St Gemma’sHospice, Martin House Children’s Hospice, Bethany’s Smile and The Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund.

Funds this year will be raised via a raffle, a live auction and a silent auction, with prizes having been donated by companies in the region.

Melanie Malcolm, Co-founder of Yorkshire Choice Awards commented:

“Each year we have hundreds of applications from charities to become the charity partner. As Simon on the Streets recently celebrated its 20thanniversary year we thought it would be a good year to support with their fundraising activities.  We are really hoping to make a difference this year for Simon on the Streets.  Hopefully our fundraising can give someone hope and support to turn their life around”

Simon on the Streets’ development manager, Fahad Khan added:

“We’re really grateful to Yorkshire Choice Awards for selecting Simon on the Streets as this year’s charity partner for the largest publicly voted awards celebration in the region. The awareness and funds raised will go a long way in helping us with our work to support entrenched rough sleepers across West Yorkshire.”

NOTE:  The Simon on The Streets team offers street-based, emotional and practical support for those who cannot access mainstream services. Part of Simon on the Streets’ role is tackling the behavioural issues and mental illnesses that result in homelessness and addiction.
