Eat North – Reliving The 80s

Aw.  Only four Eat North dates to go this year, but they do include some specials, such as the 80s theme on 24 August, and a vegan day on 14 September.

It’s hard to believe that 17 days of Eat North have already been and gone, including Sea North and Cheese North, together with several vegan and vegetarian dates.

So – what do you remember of 80s food?  The cheese fondue?  Chicken Kiev!  Traders like Slap & Pickle, The Ball Box, Mr Manana and Suru Wok & Grill are taking up the challenge and will be serving their 80s inspired creations – and for longer than usual on the day, given that it’s bank holiday week-end.

The DJ will play 80s classics, of course, and Girl Gang Leed will provide the karaoke.  Fancy dress is warmly encouraged, including children and dogs.

On 14 September, the finale of 2019 will include On a Roll, Kanassa Kitchen and Wholesome Junkies, all of whom will be serving up vegan food – a chance for sceptics to give it a try!

It’s not a total hibernation for Eat North, though: Oktoberfest will take place on 5 October and on 7 December, Christmas Eat North will help warm us on a cold day.

Simon Fogal, Director of Leeds Indie Food:

“It’s fair to say that 2019 has been a challenging year at times, with the natural elements often working against us – but as always, our team, traders and most importantly, our customers have done their best to weather the storms (literally) and continued to show up to prepare, sell and enjoy delicious food and drink and a fantastic atmosphere weekend after weekend.

We’ve had lots of fun introducing new concepts and themes this year and it’s crazy to think we are down to the final four. We’re looking forward to finishing on a high with #80sNorth and #VeganNorth and taking a well-earned break from the world of street-food – with the exception of our seasonal specials, of course!”

John Gygnell, Founder & Director of North Brewing Co:

“Eat North is one of our favourite things that we do as a brewery. It is a privilege to be able to showcase and support new independent food traders here in Leeds. The quality and variety of the food traders curated by Leeds Indie Food is consistently excellent and adding in more special events has been a fantastic way to challenge the traders throughout the summer. So far this summer we have launched 21 new North Brewing Co beers on the taps at Eat North, alongside pouring favourites from our core range. We have more beer releases planned, and can’t wait for upcoming events such as Oktoberfest and Christmas North.
