Keen on the arts? Then we may have just the thing you’re looking for! East Street Arts host an ‘Open Studios’ programme this weekend where the doors to their three Leeds studios open to the public giving you an opportunity to chat, buy art, learn new skills, but also mainly discover all kinds of local artists: digital, visual art, painters, photographers, sculptors and many more…

Yes! East Street Arts’ members are opening their doors and you are invited. Take advantage of your free time this weekend to experience some of the most creative environments in Leeds. Not only painters but also sculptors, designers, filmmakers, performers, ceramicists, illustrators, writers, even tailors, photographers and digital artists are all part of this and they welcome you behind the scenes to chat and mingle and have an ‘arty’ time.

East Street Arts - Article 1

East Street Arts is a national arts organisation with international reach. Established in 1993 in Leeds, it supports artists, collectives and emerging arts organisations. This is facilitated through a diverse programme of public activities, working with and in communities, professional support and learning sessions, studio and facility developments and a Temporary Space Programme. In Leeds, their three studios are Patrick Studios, Union 105 and Barkston Studios and they will each be a hub of activity which you can be a part of.

Here are some of the artists you are likely to meet:

  • Ben Eaton - A digital Interactive Artist and part of Invisible Flock who make lots of amazing things like digital games and large scale interactive works. Expect lots of interesting things. (At Patrick Studios)

  • Gillian Holding - A visual artist who will have a virtual presence during Open Studios and will be showing her studio as a work in progress / live studio. (At Barkston Studios)

  • Hondartza Fraga - Will be showing some new work and something from her 365 drawing project. This is the first and only time you will be able to see parts of this exhibition before it is shown fully early next year. (At Patrick Studios)

  • Ian Kirkpatrick - A contemporary artist and graphic designer who is currently working on a project with Leeds Art Gallery and a sculpture trail (coming to Leeds later in the year). He will be showing a couple of the maquettes of the sculptures which will be available to see around Leeds later in the year. (At Patrick Studios)

  • Ruth Fitton - A realist portraitist, Ruth will be showing her working studio and some of her latest portraits. (At Patrick Studios)
