Harvey Nichols: An Evening of Beauty

Harvey Nichols: An Evening of Beauty
The evening of the 2nd March saw Leeds’ prestigious Harvey Nichols play host to an exciting celebration of beauty, skincare and fragrance, all set for Spring/Summer 2016. An Evening of Beauty took place at the department store’s flagship branch on Briggate, and featured enough beauty products, tutorials – and of course, glasses of fizz – to keep the glitz and glamour buzzing all evening.

Celebrating the launch of Harvey Nichols’ new and exclusive gift-with-purchase offer, the evening centred around the artistic collaboration of LA-based, commerce-meets-content beauty site, Violet Grey, and esteemed Estee Lauder Creative Director and Illustrator, Donald Robertson. The pair have combined their talents to produce a bulging, limited-edition make-up bag, packed with £220 worth of free goodies from iconic beauty brands such as Charlotte Tilbury, NARS, Eve Lom, Chantecaille, Crème De La Met, Serge Lutens and Sisley.

The exclusive bag comes as a free gift for shoppers spending £200 or more on fragrance, cosmetics or skincare at Harvey Nichols from the beginning of March. Violet Grey is an online beauty platform that showcases the best in beauty and cosmetics, and this new offering marks the first time its curation and expertise have been available this side of the pond.

Upon entering the store, we were greeted by an array of bright lights, highlighting mountains of fragrance, skincare and cosmetics awaiting our delectation. The event featured a busy stage, with activities and demonstrations from key brands throughout the evening. This made for a great opportunity to see experts using products in the most effective ways, and we arrived just in time to master Charlotte Tilbury’s smoky eyes. Later, we learnt the secrets to finding your perfect perfume from fashion brand, Tom Ford’s, slot onstage, and tips followed from Elemis, Laura Mercier, and Aveda, encapsulating a range of hair and beauty expertise.

Moving around the dazzling shop floor, Harvey Nichols’ impressive range of fragrance, skincare and cosmetics was in full swing, and the evening’s events made each product line easy to access. Guests were given the opportunity to try out new products from all the major designers, with Dior’s stunningly laid-out fragrance range and MAC’s new Pink Flamingo collection standing out as aesthetic treats for the eyes and skin.

Elemis were offering free skin analysis consultations, inviting champagne-clutching beauty fans to discover evidence of invisible sun damage and ageing using innovative skin photography. Amongst the buzz, Lancôme were giving relaxing hand and arm massages, bringing together the concepts of inner and physical wellbeing with cosmetic products like make up and skincare.

The exciting entrance of a platform like Violet Grey to the UK sees a new space for knowledge and expert opinion to be shared and discussed, and the carefully put-together gift exemplifies the care that goes into finding the best in beauty. Violet Grey’s committee of beauty industry experts and influencers uses a unique set of standards entitled ‘The Violet Code’ to discern the hero products and curate the best of what’s around.

Being given a sneak peek of the ‘Violet Code’ approved makeup bag and its contents was a highlight of the night, and despite the hefty price tag, the gift-with-purchase promotion is an amazing offer for those into their beauty brands and top-quality cosmetics. With hundreds of brands and products out there, knowing who, where and what to buy can be a challenge even for the savviest of make-up shoppers. The gift-with-purchase promotion cleverly tackles this gap in knowledge, providing an array of products and samples to suit every taste, whilst keeping that feeling of high-end luxury that the Harvey Nichols name has become known for.
