Get GINspired at the Lazy Lounge
Step through its doors to leave the bustling city streets behind and its charming interiors will embrace you in the familiar comfort of a friendly local bistro. Lazy Lounge, tucked away in a nook on Whitehall Road just opposite the Novotel Hotel, a mere five minutes’ walk from the railway station, is just the right place for an outstanding selection of your favourite wines, gins and whisky, not to mention a delectable array of homemade food to tingle your taste buds.

Opened chiefly as a wine bar, wine remains the unfailing fervor at Lazy Lounge. From the emerging regions section in their menu to their passion for the underdog grape varieties, Lazy is home to an award winning wine list. While their offerings have spanned out to include gin and whiskey over time, an eclectic range of spirits, cocktails, beers and ciders is also featured across their bar.

The grand piano, sitting regally at the centre of the downstairs bar area, will instantly catch your eye as you walk in, around which you may sit for an inspiring wine or gin tasting session with Tom, the enthusiastic owner of Lazy Lounge, sharing his knowledge on fascinating facts about the origin, history, and the making of many celebrated wines and gins. These gin and wine tastings are a highlight at Lazy, and take place on a weekly and at times even multiple weekly bases. If you’re keener on whiskey then Hugo of the Yorkshire Fellowship of The Still is your man. Hugo hosts his whiskey tasting events at Lazy Lounge the first Thursday of every month, but booking in advance is a must for all tastings if you wish to participate.

The wooden flooring and quirky décor at the bar, hand in hand with the soft background music, offer you the perfect atmosphere whether you’re simply looking at a casual rendezvous with friends over a drink, or want to host an event, gathering or a party to celebrate a special occasion. The capacious lounge floor is stylishly scattered with comfortable sofas and its walls alive with decorative art. If you desire a tad more privacy, the establishment’s sweeping staircase takes you up to the mezzanine floor where more seating facilities are provided.

Indulge in a Lazy lunch, evening grill, sharing board or burger to your heart’s content. The food served at Lazy Lounge is fresh and homemade. Interestingly, the goods they use are locally sourced in trying to support other local independents as their suppliers, trusting in them to bring high quality local produce. Call in advance for a table to make sure they are not booked for a tasting or a gathering.
