After forming the band as part of an art school project, Dream Wife took themselves out on the road without the usual support – no booking agent, promoter or tour manager – and with only 4 songs.
What was meant to be a one-off collaboration at college in 2015 has now turned into a cohesive band with a debut album and a powerful message.
Dream Wife announced their support artists for their UK tour in advance, after a support slot open call for women and non-binary artists. They received over 400 submissions. The open call, in collaboration with Girls Rock London, was made as part of Dream Wife’s mission against the objectification of women.
The Dream Wife album, released earlier this year, has resulted in Best of 2018 So Far from NME, BBC 6 Music, The Skinny and DIY Magazine.
The band had this to say:
One of the best things about touring is getting to meet, exchange ideas with, and play music alongside kickass bands from all over the world. For our autumn headline tour dates we are calling for women/non-binary artists to come share their music, thoughts, the night and a stage with us.
Gender diversity in the music industry is still an issue and the aim is to provide a platform for women/NB musicians regardless of experience, financial backing, number of online followers etc. If you’ve got rock ‘n’ roll in your soul, if you’ve got something to say; we want to hear from you.
