Chaophraya – Named Best World Restaurant

Chaophraya Thai Restaurant in Leeds City Centre was named Best World Restaurant in Yorkshire at the Yorkshire Evening Posts Oliver Awards, held at Headingley Stadium last month.

The awards recognise and celebrate the best of the county’s food and drink scene. This year saw the introduction of the Best World Restaurant award, which coincides with Chaophraya’s 30 year anniversary.

Owner Khun Kim has come a long way – literally – since starting her own Pad Thai stall in her native Thailand back in 1993 – and 30 years on is still serving up the exact same recipe. All occasions and tastes are now catered for, with a wide range of dishes and platters from a diverse menu.

The launch of their new cocktail menu ahead of the summer months anticipates opening up their popular terrace for diners and hosting events.

Kim now heads up 16 restaurants spanning the UK under the name Thai Leisure Group. Customers can enjoy formal dining, street food experiences and buffet food – there is something for any occasion. Kim works closely with her team of chefs to develop delicious dishes that delight customers from Scotland right down to the South Coast.

Kim:  “We’re delighted to have been awarded this prestigious award and want to thank everyone who has supported us since 2004. As a family-owned business, we are proud to say that everything we do is done from the heart. At Chaophraya, it is more than the food; it’s the feeling.”
