A mouth-watering line up has been formed showcasing many of the Leeds’ burger legends. Those entering the ring include: Belgrave residents Patty Smiths, dirty burger extraordinaires Almost Famous, munchies maestros Get Baked, Yorkshire food enthusiasts Black Swan, American style BBQers The Old Yorkshire Pit and Sela Bar’s Boozy Q with their beer-infused burgers. Joining them will be Newcastle’s winners Lola Jeans and Fat Hippo who will be hoping to retain their crown against the Leeds competitors. So far, most joints have kept their burger battle secrets under wraps, leading to much anticipation of what each entry will entail; but with competitors like this it’s obvious we can expect bold flavours, experimental fillers, top quality patties and lots of messy faces!
To keep things fair each food vendor will take their burgers micro, to form smaller sliders which will all be priced at £3 each. This will allow judges/punters to be able to try all (or at least) a few of the offerings without busting their jean buttons. Burgers will be purchased via a token system and with each token will come a voting card – the more burgers bought the more votes that can be cast.
The Newcastle event saw thousands of burgers bought across the two legs held there and the organizers are hoping for a similarly successful turn out in Leeds. Entrance to the event is completely free and the organizers aim to create a festive vibe with all night music curated and provided by One20, as well as bars stocked up with craft beers and brews. A winner will be announced as the event draws to a close so expect meat, sweat and tears as the competition hots up over the weekend into what is sure to be a fierce and meaty finale.
This one-off weekend of burgers, beers and beats is not to be missed! The Battle of the Burger will be at Canal Mills and will open 5pm till midnight on Friday 18th September and then reopen midday till midnight on Saturday 19th.
FYI: Just in case meat isn’t quite your thing the hosts have promised that vegetarian options will be available for those who are less beef inclined so don’t leave your herbivores at home.
