Leeds Living is published by Effective Publishing CIC. Effective was founded with two primary goals: to help local independent businesses and socially responsible organisations find their voice, and to create opportunities for the many talented writers, photographers and artists in Leeds who are taking the first steps in their career in media.
This forward-thinking publishing company aims to change the face of independent publishing. We are building a wide network of talented contributors, enabling us to offer an end-to-end service, from content creation to production and delivery, both digitally and via more traditional printed media.
Formed as a not for profit and without the cost of full-time staff or expensive workspace, Effective is able to adapt quickly to the changes in an increasingly difficult industry, to challenge convention and be bold and brave in our decision making. Although advertising still plays an important part in funding our publications, we are not bound or gagged as others are by commercial relationships.
To date, Effective has helped over 80 writers, designers, artists and photographers improve their portfolios by publishing their work both online and in print. Many of these have since gone on to forge careers in the industry. By providing real-world scenarios and pushing them out of their comfort zone, the diversity of their work and their experiences is also enhanced. In time, we hope to launch a series of training and mentoring programmes by pairing young people with experienced industry professionals.
Throughout 2018, Effective will be working with some incredible people and organisations on a range of projects. We see collaboration at the very heart of everything we do and it’s only through building strong partnerships that we can tell the stories that need to be told.
If you need help to tell your story, feel you have something to contribute or simply have an idea you would like to share then we would love to hear from you. Start the conversation by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or look for us on Twitter @effective_pub
