A Walk Through The City

A walk through the City
A place I call home
Once filled with voices
Sadly now there are none

A walk through the City
Stare down at my feet
A lack of delight
On Low Merrion Street

A walk through the City
Now so sparse and bare
No spring-time drinkers
In Millennium Square

A walk through the City
None playing out late
Or losing their gains
At Victoria Gate

A walk through the City
A harsh lack of noise
No cheering Headrow
For the young Brownlee boys

A walk through the City
A place that has drive
Will pick itself up
Will do more than survive

A walk through the City
Amble past LGI
Whisper a thank you
To our fearless frontline

A walk through the City
A feeling so still
A spirit silenced
Lies in waiting until

A walk through the City
A long road ahead
It’s gonna be tough
But we’re Yorkshire bred

A walk through the City
Though calm, not alone
Only out for a moment
Mostly staying at home
