Chophaus Alfresco

Oakwood’s Chophaus has a new, all-weather, heated terrace to accommodate 80 people, and given their collaboration with chef Lee Murdoch to offer mouth-watering new menus, there’s a definite feel of a newfound freedom in the air.

Nanu Soda, who designed the Chophaus interior, has worked magic to design the terrace, creating a setting worthy of languishing through the summer, flanked by the greenery of the trees and people of like minds.

A superb choice of food

In Yorkshire, awarding-winner Lee Murdoch is known for his culinary craft at D&D’s Crafthouse and Angelicas, as well as his own popular Fior Alba delivery service. Now, he’s created a stunning array of dishes that will both please and surprise regulars. The Terrace Menu takes its inspiration from around the world, with dishes such as Truffle Puffs with black garlic sauce and smoked sea salt and Fior Fries with aged Parmigiana make up the lighter bar plates section, whilst the larger plates are split across four sections.

Salmon tartar tacos

The Raw & Sushi section includes Salmon Tartar Tacos with grapefruit and a lime crème Fraiche, California Crab Rolls, Spicy Tuna Gunmaki and Kumamoto Oysters with yuzu and galea apple. The Salads & Seafood selection offers dishes such as Sauteed King Prawn with chipotle and mango olive oil, and Miso Wild Bass with sake, mirin, and ginger.

Sushi

Signature & Charcoal lists a mouth-watering range of plates, including Highland Wagyu Ribeye, Grilled Native Lobster with yuzu, shallot and seaweed, and Korean Chicken Sliders with pickled kohlrabi, Fior sauce and a sesame milk bun.

Those who are dessert lovers will of course be drawn towards the Sweet & Savoury offerings, which includes Moji by Murdoch (feature photograph) with honeycomb, raspberry, and milk chocolate, Coconut Edible with mango sorbet and tropical salsa, and a Foie Gras Crumpet with manuka honey and pink pepper.

All new dishes have been created to complement the restaurant’s signature selection of prime, locally sourced meats, which includes a bestselling range of Wagyu beef.

Outdoors with cocktails

An interesting range of cocktails will be available to complement the new plates and includes the fruity Chophaus Punch. Blessed with Wray & Nephew rum, plantation pineapple, apricot, lime and creole bitters, essentially summer in a glass.

You will have to wait until 12 April to experience all these delights, but it seems they’re well worth the wait. And Chophaus had only been open for 4 months before the first lockdown, yet their takeaway Sunday roasts have helped to build up loyal followers.
