Monty Middleton-Smith Advances to National Finals of Riso Gallo UK & Ireland Young Risotto Chef of the Year 2026
Rising culinary talent Monty Middleton-Smith, aged 17, studying at Leeds City College, has been named winner of the North-East Heat of the Riso Gallo UK & Ireland Young Risotto Chef of the Year 2026, securing his place in this year’s highly anticipated Grand Final.

Monty impressed judges with his dish: English Asparagus, Garden Pea & Wild Garlic Risotto. Showcasing creativity, technical skill and a strong commitment to sustainability, his dish stood out among a competitive field of young chefs.

“Monty was a worthy winner as he produced an excellent risotto and had everything you’d expect from a classic dish. It had the right bite, texture and creaminess. He let the seasonal produce shine through and kept it classic. He didn’t overcomplicate the dish and that showed in him winning the heat.” said the judging panel.
The Grand Final takes place on 1 June at Tottenham Hotspur ‘H’ Club.
