Temple Newsam will once again be transformed for Christmas 2026
Leeds’ immersive festive spectacular Northern Lights have revealed the official map for a brand-new breathtaking journey. Following two successful winters as Northern Lights, The Lost Light of Christmas is an innovative, narrative driven adventure that will lead visitors around the iconic grounds of Temple Newsam this festive season.
Approximately one mile in length, the light trail will host over a dozen incredible illuminations with a curated selection of vintage fairground rides and a wide variety of classic festive treats, including mulled wine, hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows on hand to get everyone in the Christmas spirit. In addition to the trail, guests will be able to explore the magical Christmas Village, which will feature an extensive range of delicious food and drink offerings, celebrating the very best of Yorkshire’s artisan street food vendors and bars.
With over 100,000 visitors each year, Northern Lights Leeds has been completely reimagined this winter with a showcase of exclusive art installations from some of the UK’s leading light artists, featuring special effects, interactive elements and bespoke audio compositions, all tied together with an illuminating new narrative theme. Follow a glowing trail through enchanted forests, along sparkling pathways and around shimmering lagoons with plenty of hidden surprises along the way as you help the fairies on their quest restore the Lost Light of Christmas before it goes out forever.
Northern Lights Leeds has also revealed the first preview of The Lost Light of Christmas. The Faerie Way, begins the adventure with thousands of tiny lights slowly forming a path that leads visitors on a festive adventure whilst standout installation Whisper and Wish, from award-winning team and long-time Northern Lights collaborators Ithaca Creative Sound & Light Art, is a magical avenue of 12 voice-activated illuminating trees that will respond to whispered Christmas wishes with a breathtaking array of colour and sound, as visitors cross the border from our world into the faerie realm on a quest to help them save Christmas for everyone.
From the award-winning team at long-time Northern Lights collaborators, The Lost Light of Christmas is now one of five festive light trail by the award-winning From The Fields, the team behind the acclaimed light trails at Cardiff’s Christmas at Bute Park, Northern Lights Newcastle at Leazes Park, Northern Lights Manchester in Heaton Park and the newly announced Northern Lights Leicester at Abbey Park, plus the multi-award-winning ‘Glastonbury of the North’ Kendal Calling, now looking forward to its 21st sold-out year.
