All Together Now – Opera North’s Christmas Appeal

Opera North has just celebrated the 40th year of its founding and, as well as a December of orchestral and choral performances and family fun, giving festive joy to all ages, the company has launched All Together Now.

Some of us not only appreciate the power of opera and music; we can also visit our theatres and other venues to experience live performances which move, stir and captivate us beyond the recorded instrument and voice.

All Together Now is a Christmas appeal as part of Opera North’s year-round Community Partnerships scheme, which links up with over 100 groups and organisations.   The intention is to help as many vulnerable, lonely and isolated people in the Leeds area to enjoy music, attending performances and other activities over the festive period.

Opera North’s Encore Scheme, whereby a community group can go to the theatre and Howard Assembly Room, or other venues, to experience the magic.

The Bravo Scheme helps individuals to enjoy music in theatres and also become involved in Community Choir,  see taster performances, attend workshops and listen to special pre-show talks.

For some people, the opportunities provided by Opera North and donations from the general public can create or revive interest in music and be a start to restoring a social life – and there are other benefits, for example when members of the Encore Scheme join with the Bravo Scheme, they often find themselves able to venture out on their own, having gained the confidence to do so once more.
