Sinfonia – A Leeds Playhouse and The Performance Ensemble co-production

Sinfonia is an exciting new production devised and directed by Alan Lyddiard, Artistic Director of The Performance Ensemble.

Director Alan Lyddiard

Sinfonia is a contemporary collision of stories, live music, dance and life, revealing untold tales through a visually striking performance. This is a celebration of lives lived to the fullest from the over-60s generations who shaped British pop, punk and the fight for civil rights.

Tamara McLorg

“These generations are forever associated with the birth of British pop or the rise of punk, fashion firsts, the first man on the moon and the fight for civil, social and political rights; they have lived experience that cannot, and should not, be forgotten. We want to show that these people matter and, more, that they have something to say that everyone can relate to, can learn from.” Alan Lyddiard, Director of Sinfonia.

We encourage you to arrive a little early for the show so you can also head into the Bramall Rock Void for Radical Acts of Being Human, an immersive digital installation by multidisciplinary creative studio Field bringing to life all 1001 stories of Leeds residents, past and present.

Sinfonia sits at the heart of 1001 Stories, an original concept by The Performance Ensemble, which is a takeover by older people of every space at Leeds Playhouse from 24 April – 6 May.

The production is in partnership with LEEDS 2023 Year of Culture, alongside partners Leeds Older People’s Forum, Leeds Museums & Galleries and the Playhouse. There are free daily events for people of all ages to get involved in, from Zumba workshops to Punjabi Poetry sessions with Sikh Elders Service.
