80-year-old Cancer Patient Grace will run 80 miles in 8 days

Grace has begun her ’80-8-80′ running challenge, with her 80th birthday coming up on 16 June. She is supporting cancer patients by running in aid of Leeds Cares for her chosen cause, Breast Cancer Action.

Grace has a history to share with current cancer patients, having undergone a mastectomy 35 years ago and diagnosed again in 2008 with cancer in her sternum.

Andrew, Grace’s husband, is also a patient at Leeds Cancer Centre, and they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary last year by raising funds for the Centre to mark the occasion.

Grace said: “Both my husband and I have cancer – We’d like to say a huge thank you to Leeds Cancer Centre for looking after me for over 35 years and for treating my husband since last year,”

Grace has been a member of Kippax Harriers running club since 1987, and she will be running every morning from her home in Garforth along “The Lines Way” to Allerton Bywater and back. Family members, friends and running club members will be supporting her, joining her at times along the route, for what she estimated will be 3 – 3.5 hours each day.
