Leeds Adult Literacy Charity Seeks Volunteers

Read Easy Leeds is a charity run by volunteers dedicated to teaching adults to acquire basic reading skills.

Read Easy, formed during Lockdown, is affiliated to the national charity, Read Easy UK.

According to the National Literacy Trust, 7.1 million adults can be described as having ‘very poor literacy skills.’ Read Easy provides free, confidential, one-to-one coaching by trained volunteer coaches, using a phonics-based reading programme devised by the Shannon Trust.

Our reader proudly holding his certificate to mark his progress on his reading journey. Supported by his coach, it represents many hours of effort rewarded by increasing literacy skills. This is all provided free to the reader with the charity providing the materials and all of the Read Easy team volunteering their time and effort for free. The payback for our volunteers is to be part of a life-changing programme for anyone who wants to learn to read or improve their literacy skills.

Read Easy Leeds has grown, with over 20 coaches supporting people to gain or enhance their reading skills. Read Easy’s locally based, volunteer-run Management Team bring their experience and expertise, having come from all walks of life. Owing to team members needing to step down from their roles, there are a number of vacancies.
