New Furniture Superstore Funding Heart Research

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) opened its doors to their new furniture superstore in Colton Retail Park, in what has been one of the charity’s busiest opening weeks.

The new furniture and electrical store in Colton Retail Park has proved popular with shoppers, offering quality preloved items including sofas, tables, beds, wardrobes, and home appliances.

To mark the opening, the ceremonial ribbon was cut by cardiac physiologists, Dr John Gierula and Dr Judith Lowry. Both lecturers at the University of Leeds, John’s research focuses on pacemaker optimisation and Judith’s on chronic heart failure.

The researchers discussed how every purchase in the store will help fund lifesaving research, including the £21.4m of BHF funding which supports cardiovascular research at the University of Leeds.

Dr John Gierula, Cardiac Physiologist at the University of Leeds, said: “We were honoured to be asked to open the new BHF store and speak to the public about the lifesaving research that the shop will help fund. Every sale in the shop will make a difference to those living with heart and circulatory diseases, including the 86,000 people in Leeds and 7.6 million across the UK.

“The BHF helped to fund our cutting-edge research facilities at the university, here in Leeds. We couldn’t do our work without the funding of the BHF and it was a pleasure to show our support by opening the new Colton store.”

Lee Hare, BHF area manager, said: “Almost two years after our home store in Crossgates closed at the end of its lease, we are thrilled to open our stylish new store and offer quality, preloved homeware to the local community.

“The store is always being stocked with new homeware items, so drop in for a visit and see what discoveries you can make. We’re always looking for more support, so whether you have a spare couple of hours or have items to donate, we would love to welcome you to our new store.”

The new BHF store at Colton Retail Park, is open 7 days a week.
