Rob Burrow and Family to Take Part in Leeds Arena Run

Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All is delighted to announce that Rob Burrow MBE and family will be taking part in this year’s Leeds Arena Group Mini and Junior run on Sunday 18th June.

On the same days as Leeds 10k, it seems fitting that it is also Father’s Day, when Rob will be joined by wife Lindsey and children Macy, Maya and Jackson.

It’s a lap of honour for Rob after the success of the inaugural Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon, in partnership with Clarion. The Marathon has now raised over £4 million in donations and will benefit several causes, not the least of which is the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Leeds Hospitals Charity MND Centre Appeal.

On announcing his involvement in next month’s Leeds Mini and Junior events, Rob said: “I’m really looking forward to my kids pushing me round the Fun Run. I think it might be a bumpy ride!”

Macy Burrow added: “We are really excited to be taking part in the Fun Run with our Dad.”

The Arena Group Leeds Mini and Junior runs are open to anyone from the age of 3 years, offering a perfect opportunity for families and friends to stay active and healthy together.

The Mini 1.5Km course is open to children aged between 3 – 8 and the Junior 2.35Km course caters for children aged between 9 – 15, both welcoming all abilities to wheel, walk, jog and run. Organisers will work to make the event accessible to all abilities.

The Arena Group Leeds Mini and Junior events will start and finish at the Parkinson Steps of the University of Leeds. The Junior event kicking off at 9.45am and the Mini at 9.55am.

Children are encouraged to fundraise for the event’s main partner charity, Martin House.

Martin House is a charity that provides hospice care for children and young people across West, North and East Yorkshire. The hospice provides family-led care to children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses, either at the hospice or in families’ own homes.

A highlight in the City’s events calendar, the day will see the return of one of the region’s biggest and best-loved charity road runs, the Leeds 10K. A hugely popular, inclusive and supported race for participants of all abilities, thousands of fun-runners, fundraisers and club runners are expected to take on the 10K challenge.

Started by Jane Tomlinson in 2007, the Leeds 10K was her lasting legacy event. Having raised £1.8 million for charity while she was battling terminal cancer, in 2006 Jane knew her time left to fundraise was limited. As a result, Jane decided to set up the Leeds 10K to continue the fundraising vehicle for charities that she had started.

Participants have been encouraged to fundraise for their own charity of choice or one of the event’s partner charities; The Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Leeds Hospitals Charity, Leeds Mind, Macmillan Cancer Support, St George’s Crypt and Candlelighters.

Those taking part will be able enjoy the sights of the City as they make their way around the 10K route. Kicking off at 9.00am outside the Parkinson Steps at the University of Leeds, the route goes through Headingley and then into Meanwood before winding back past the First Direct Arena and finishing outside Leeds Art Gallery on The Headrow.

The Clarion Leeds 10K Team Challenge will sit alongside the 10K and see teams of colleagues or friends battle it out to be crowned Team Challenge Champions. As part of the challenge, runners can choose to fundraise for a charity of choice, or use the event as a chance to bring their team together in a shared challenge.

Entries are still open for both the Arena Group Leeds Mini and Junior runs and the Leeds 10K. Potential participants are advised to visit runforall.com to enter.
