Yorkshire CEO to Cycle 2,000-Mile Perimeter of England in Solo World Record Challenge

In June, Martin Mansell, CEO of EnjoyTravel.com and known for his ultra-distance endurance challenges, will set out on a solo attempt to cycle the full perimeter of England.

The journey covers 2,000 miles, when Martin will be attempting to set a new world record for cycling this route in the fastest time possible.

The route, officially sanctioned by WUCA (World UltraCycling Association), the governing body and certification source for Guinness World Records for endurance cycling, covers the entire English coastline, Welsh and Scottish borders. It starts and ends at the Humber Bridge in East Yorkshire. It is anticipated Martin will aim to cycle back-to-back 200 mile days for around 10 days.

This latest ride marks the final chapter in a three-year series of endurance challenges and will be the biggest yet, pushing Martin to his limits as he tackles hills, coastlines and demanding terrain across the country. He will spend upwards of 16 hours per day on the road with very little rest – with support in place along the route.

“This is going to be the biggest challenge of my endurance cycling journey so far. What began three years ago as an ambitious ride around the perimeter of Yorkshire has now grown into something far bigger, with the finale spanning the entire 2,000-mile perimeter of England and testing me to my absolute limits, across every type of terrain the country has to offer.

There’s been a Yorkshire thread running through every challenge I’ve taken on, so it feels only right that the ride starts and finishes in God’s Own County. Once completed, I’ll ride back into my home City of Leeds before returning to my family in our small West Yorkshire village of Skelmanthorpe – a fitting way to bring the three-year journey full circle.”

“Riding for these incredible charities, and knowing the difference every mile will make to people’s lives, is what will carry me through the toughest moments.”

Founder and chief executive of Yorkshire Children’s Charity<https://yorkshirechildrenscharity.org/>, Charlotte Farrington: “We’re incredibly grateful to Martin for choosing to support Yorkshire Children’s Charity through this extraordinary challenge. The commitment and resilience required to take on something of this scale is truly inspiring.

Every mile cycled will help us continue supporting children and young people across Yorkshire who are living with disability, illness or hardship, providing the essentials they need to feel safe, supported and able to thrive. We’ll be cheering Martin on every step of the way.”

The world record attempt to cycle the full 2,000-mile perimeter of England aims to raise £50,000 for two life-changing, Yorkshire-based charities.

  *   Rob Burrow Centre for MND through Leeds Hospitals Charity, providing expert care, researc, and support for people living with MND.

  *   Yorkshire Children’s Charity, supporting children living with disability and hardship across the region with essential equipment and emergency resources.

A series of fundraising events will support the challenge, including a public sweepstake to predict Martin’s final time, alongside other activities and prize-led initiatives with support from local businesses.

From the Humber Bridge Martin will cycle down the East Yorkshire and Norfolk coastlines, before heading across to Dover, the south-east tip of England, and following the southern edge of the country to Land’s End in Cornwall.

From there, he will continue north through the Severn Bridge in Bristol, Chester, and up to Whitehaven, the furthest westerly point, before reaching Carlisle in the north-west. The final stretch takes him along the Northumberland coast through Newcastle and back towards Hull, concluding the epic 2,000-mile journey back at the Humber Bridge.
