I make a mission out of finding the best coffee shops in town wherever I find myself, much to the chagrin of my friends, colleagues and travel companions, who insist there are only two types of coffee – with and without milk. Caffeine Addict’s extensive menu of 15 coffee beverages begs to differ!
As far as coffee is concerned, you are bound to find something to your taste, from a classic espresso or cappuccino to cold drip coffee and everything in-between. The more adventurous can indulge in a Spanish or Indian Latte, amongst a unique ‘taste-of-the-world’ selection of caffeine-infused drinks inspired by the owners’ coffee discoveries around the globe.
I couldn’t resist the temptation to try their signature drink Black Snow – a house espresso slush topped with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Masterfully walking a tightrope between coffee and dessert, it tastes as good as it looks!
Whatever tickles your fancy, you are guaranteed to enjoy small-batch specialty-grade coffee made by a skilled barista.
The Food
Everything on Caffeine Addict’s brand new, carefully-curated menu is freshly made to order and served all day long. I went for the Dirty Tatatots (delicious fancy hashbrowns) and the Double Dose (a beefburger toasted wrap cooked to perfection) and was impressed with both – a perfect blend of texture, taste and presentation! Alternatively, if you’re after a pastry, cake or bagel to-go, the friendly staff are always on hand to help you discover new treats, like their Dubai-inspired pistachio kunefe croissant.
The Vibe
Caffeine Addict stands out as a bright ,youthful alternative to the ‘hipster café’ that has become a shorthand for quality (specialty) coffee. The Breaking Bad-inspired décor, eye-catching window display and green colour scheme make for a distinctively fresh and vibrant aesthetic. What sweetens the deal for me is that the space doesn’t feel crammed or loud, even at full capacity.
The Verdict
The café owners’ attention to detail and dedication to executing their vision meticulously before launching their flagship coffee shop on Otley Road has certainly paid off. Caffeine Addict is a rising star on the Leeds coffee scene that is easily among the best. Offering a rare combination of unique atmosphere, precision-roasted specialty coffee and flavour-forward menu, it has quickly become a personal favourite.
