Hyde Park Book Club’s Album ‘To Be Here Now’

Hyde Park Book Club’s jazz album recognises the thriving and flourishing jazz scene in Leeds, in a way never before captured.   It has emerged from a collaboration between Jack Simpson, HPBC’s owner, and saxophonist Ben Powling.

‘To Be Here Now’ will be released on 1 October, and a launch party on that day will ensure you have the chance to hear the album, when some of the performers will appear and perform live.  Endless DJs will be there and there’ll be a live Q & A with Jack, Ben and Lubi Jovanovic. The album features music from Jasmine Whalley, Skwid Ink, Wandering Monster, Ayana, Tip Toe and Ancient Infinity Orchestra, and was recorded across a few days in late 2017 and early 2018 by Will Jackson of Soundworks at Jack Simpson’s other venue, Eiger Studios.

Jack Simpson had this to say about the album:

“It was conceived by Ben and me to pay respect to the thriving scene flourishing in and enveloping Leeds right now. It is often only in looking back that we can see how good moments or scenes are; perhaps this is one of those moments.

Night after night, you can hear jazz played across the City, the dives, the cafes, the bars. But as yet, this has not been captured on record. Here, we tried to do just a little of that.  To preserve this moment.”

Tickets are Pay As You Feel and available here.
