Christmas Lights Fundraiser for Hospice

Alwoodley resident Jeff Norman was so moved by the wonderful care his sister-in-law received at Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice, he decided to raise funds for the Hospice from his display of thousands of Christmas lights, inflatables and projections.

Jeff: “My wife Debra’s sister, Paula, was sadly diagnosed with cancer about a year ago and she received the most wonderful care at Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice before she died in August 2022. As we have directly experienced the fantastic dedication and support provided by the hospice, it is a cause that is very close to our hearts and we wanted to fundraise for them this year to say thank you and give back.”

The Christmas lights sparkled between the 1st December and 6th January, from 3.15pm-10.15pm each evening, and raised an impressive £1,770.

Donations were left in cash or paid online by neighbours and passers-by. Jeff: “In all the years of doing ‘Jeff’s Lights’ my family and relatives could never have thought that we would ever reach such an astonishing level of support and donations from our local community. It was wonderful to have so many people come from near and far to see the lights and get into the festive spirit.”

Jo Stevens, Fundraising Manager at Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice: “We are so grateful to Jeff and his family for choosing to support us this year with their festive lights display. It is incredible that they were able to raise £1,770 for our hospice, where it will make such a difference. We receive the majority of our funding from fundraisers like Jeff, and without people like them we wouldn’t be able to continue our work.”
