The James Brown Story: At City Varieties Music Hall on 16 September

There’s a particular excitement about this performance, because the show was founded in Leeds and the funk-orchestra is made up of Leeds musicians.

“The singing, live band and full performance was fabulous from start to finish”.
“The James Brown Story was an absolute blast!”
“A feel good show with a very talented cast!”

Relive the original soul legend in an immersive concert experience that goes beyond imitation and captures the essence of the Godfather’s unmatched legacy. Get involved in the movement as you watch high-octane dance numbers, heart wrenching ballads and timeless classics that have inspired generations of musicians and activists alike to get on the good foot and Say It Loud!

The show has all the big hits, such as ‘I Feel Good’, ‘Man’s World’, ‘Get Up’, and explores James Brown’s life as a Civil Rights campaigner, funk and soul icon, business leader and the eponymously named ‘Hardest Working Man in Show Business’.

This brand-new production takes you on a journey that explores the life of the King of Funk in his own words, featuring a full cast and 9-piece funk orchestra who have toured with thelikes of Jamiroquai, Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse, Martha Reeves and many more.

A message from the Producers:

“If you ain’t dancing, we doing it wrong…” There’s a reason he’s called the hardest working man in show-business: with a vast back catalogue of 74 albums and 144 singles, there will be songs you know and some that you don’t, but we won’t stop working until there’s a smile on everyone’s face.

Guy Kelton Jones is James Brown. Born in New York but growing up all around the southern United States, Guy’s unique style is influenced through direct experiences he has had in life. As a singer, songwriter, rapper, creator and teacher his performance lives up to the standards of the hardest working man in show business.

THE JAMES BROWN STORY heads to City Varieties Music Hall, Leeds on Monday the 16th of September 2024. Tickets are available to book here.
