We turn the spotlight on a gorgeous terrace café, approved by Stanley Tucci.

Up there with the world’s most famous foodies, Stanley Tucci officially landed in Greater Leeds and Bradford recently and has given his much sought-after seal of approval to popular terrace café and local favourite 39 Coffee Company. He stopped by while he was filming at a local pub just across the street and posed for a snap with strarstruck, elated staff and customers.
And with the sun blazing strong every morning, afternoon AND evening of late, the terraza at number 39 is the crème de la crème of spots to lap up Leeds’ glorious rays. Picture yourself overlooking the charming town, a blanket of live music from the market providing mellow, cushy undertones, all whilst sipping an iced latte and perusing a brunch menu which is up there with the very best in the North. You’ll be thanking your lucky stars you saw my words. Trust me.

Now, while it’s true that Greater Leeds and Bradford are home to spades of fantastic coffee shops and chic brunch hang-outs, this one always hits differently. As the name suggests, 39 Coffee Company are serious about their coffee beans – and have launched not one, not two, but four carefully crafted blends (including a decaf) which are available in-house or, alternatively, if you love them as much as we do, they are grabbable in 250g and 1kg bags to brew your own beautiful morning sip at home.
The food is both serious and solid, with portion sizes generous enough to keep you full all day long – just be sure to make a teensy bit of room for one of their scrummy cakes or pastries afterwards. Happily, breakfast, brunch and lunch options are available from 9.30am through to 3.30pm daily, so you’ll be completely spoilt for choice, whatever your preference.

On the savoury menu, my go-to is the veggie full English (with added smoked salmon for me – always). But order anything featuring their excellent sourdough and you can’t go far wrong. The lunch options also looked mouthwatering as they zipped past in fanfare-like fashion, and friends have told me that the afternoon dishes hit the spot flavourwise. On which note, this place gets busy, especially at weekends, but there is ample room both indoors and out for an al fresco-style experience and there is a fairly speedy turnover, which is handy given that they do not accept reservations. They are also extremely dog-friendly and have jars of treats thoughtfully snuggled amidst the sugar pots and a water bowl ready for your furry friend. Perfect. Did we mention they also offer wine?
