Kerala Canteen: Lunch Thali For £9.95

Authentic Kerala Flavours – Right in the Centre of the City

Top 100 Indian Restaurant Kerala Canteen has introduced an affordable Thursday-to-Sunday lunch, with additional 15% discounts for students, NHS staff and Leeds City Centre employees.

Kerala Canteen is making authentic South Indian food more accessible in Leeds with its £9.95 Lunch Thali, available Thursday to Sunday from 12 noon.

Designed as an affordable introduction to Kerala cuisine, the Lunch Thali brings together comforting curries, fragrant rice and traditional accompaniments on one plate, inspired by the everyday style of eating found across Kerala.

The offer is aimed at everyone, from City Centre workers and students to shoppers, theatre-goers and visitors looking for an alternative to the usual lunchtime choices in Leeds.

Kerala Canteen is recognised among the Top 100 Indian Restaurants in the UK and has built its identity around authentic Kerala recipes, bold regional flavours and quality local ingredients.

Bringing the Kerala Thali Tradition to Leeds

The thali is an important part of Indian dining culture, allowing several complementary flavours and textures to be enjoyed as one complete meal.

Rather than choosing a single dish, diners experience a combination of curry, rice and accompaniments, making the £9.95 Lunch Thali an accessible way for someone who has never tried Kerala food before to discover the cuisine.

Kerala Canteen’s approach is rooted in regional South Indian cooking rather than the conventional British curry-house format.

Consultant Chef Bobby Geetha, known from MasterChef UK and Great British Menu: “Some of the best food I remember growing up in Kerala wasn’t expensive or complicated. It was a plate of rice, curry and different accompaniments eaten together. That’s what we want our lunch thali to represent. You shouldn’t need a special occasion or a big budget to experience proper regional Indian food. For £9.95, someone can walk into Kerala Canteen at lunchtime and discover the comforting flavours we grew up eating.”

15% Off Lunch for Students, NHS Staff and Leeds City Centre Workers

Alongside the £9.95 Thali, Kerala Canteen is introducing an additional lunchtime incentive for three important communities within the City.

Students, NHS staff and people working in Leeds City Centre can receive 15% off their lunch when booking in advance between 12pm and 2pm and presenting valid identification.

The initiative is designed to make Kerala Canteen a practical lunchtime destination rather than somewhere reserved only for evening dining and special occasions.

Bobby Geetha added:

“We’re surrounded by students, businesses, healthcare workers, theatres and some of the busiest parts of Leeds. We wanted to create a lunch that people working or studying nearby could genuinely come back and enjoy regularly.”

From MasterChef to an Everyday £9.95 Lunch

Kerala Canteen’s food philosophy combines authentic recipes from Kerala with a modern restaurant setting and quality ingredients.

Bobby Geetha’s involvement brings experience from MasterChef UK to the concept, but the objective of the Lunch Thali is deliberately straightforward: good, regional Indian food at an accessible price.

The restaurant believes that as British diners become increasingly interested in India’s regional cuisines, dishes and dining traditions, the Kerala thali can introduce guests to a side of Indian food they may not previously have experienced.

Lunch in the Heart of Leeds

Kerala Canteen’s location also makes the new offer particularly suited to lunchtime dining.

The restaurant is conveniently positioned close to Leeds Bus Station, Victoria Gate and Leeds Playhouse, putting it within easy reach of shoppers, office workers, students, visitors and those spending the day in Leeds.

Guests can visit for a quick weekday lunch, meet colleagues and friends, or make Kerala Canteen part of a day of shopping or entertainment in the City.
