Lunchtime Chamber Music concerts start on Wednesday 7 October at Leeds Conservatoire.

Darius Battiwalla
The English Romantic tradition features strongly in the opening recital of the season by Leeds City Organist Darius Battiwalla, with dramatic and lyrical pieces by Alfred Hollins and Charles Villiers Stanford to open and close the concert.

William Campbell
William Campbell is familiar to Leeds audiences, having held posts at the cathedrals of Leeds and Bradford. His programme shows a wide range of musical colour and expression, from Louis Vierne’s darkly dramatic fourth symphony to Iain Farrington’s exuberant and jazz-influenced works.

Jeffrey Makinson
Organist at Lincoln Cathedral Jeffrey Makinson performs Edward Bairstow’s rarely heard Scherzo in A flat and Joseph Jongen’s Sonata Eroïca – a great favourite of former City Organist Dr Simon Lindley.

Joshua Stephens
English music is strongly featured in Winchester Cathedral organist Joshua Stephens’ programme, reflecting the tonal colours of the Leeds Cathedral organ. William Lloyd Webber’s tuneful and romantic music was rather unfashionable in his lifetime but has recently become more popular.

Madeleine Brown
Having graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge, Madeleine Brown’s programme for solo piano includes Maurice Ravel’s Miroirs and Sergei Rachmaninov’s second piano sonata.

Royal Academy of Music
French horn player Claire Marsden and pianist Sam O’Neal both study at the Royal Academy of Music. Their programme includes Sigurd Berge’s Horn-Lokk which blends traditional horn calls with Norwegian folk inspired melodies, creating a haunting piece with a furious climax.

Samrat Majumder
Samrat Majumder is a Scottish-Indian classical guitarist, a joint Young Classical Artists Guild Artist and was named a Classic FM Rising Star in February 2026. His programme for solo guitar includes music by John Dowland, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Arthur Keegan.

Cardinal Quintet – Relaxed Performance (and main image)
The Cardinal Quintet is a Manchester-based wind quintet, made up of recent graduates of the Royal Northern College of Music. The ensemble’s programme includes Valerie Coleman’s Red Clay and Mississippi Delta which vividly depicts the bluesy dialect of the Mississippi delta region.
