The screening at Everyman Leeds will be followed by an in-person Q&A with the director, Bianca Stigter on Thursday 15 June from 8 p.m. until 10.30 p.m.
Three Minutes: A Lengthening is a cinematic meditation on memory and loss, examining and expanding three minutes of extraordinary home footage documenting life in a Jewish community in a small town in Poland called Nasielsk in 1938.
This is more than just a film about the violence and terror involved in the destruction of Jewish life in Europe – the widely acclaimed 2021 documentary also offers recollections of joy, and reflects on the experiences of Jewish everyday life in Poland before the catastrophe of the Nazi genocide.
The screening will be followed by a conversation between the director, Bianca Stigter, and Jenny Kagan, Chair of the Holocaust Survivors’ Friendship Association and an internationally acclaimed artist. The conversation will offer a reflection on ways of remembering and making art about the Holocaust in the twenty-first century and will provide an opportunity for questions from the audience.
All proceeds from the screening will contribute to the costs of Holocaust Centre North and the Holocaust Survivors’ Friendship Association, a registered charity. Holocaust Centre North is an exhibition, archive and learning centre based in Huddersfield which preserves the stories and memories of survivors of the Holocaust who rebuilt their lives in the North of England.
