Leeds Craft Centre & Design Gallery Re-opens With Special Exhibitions

In a world where we currently expect bad news to be lurking around every corner, it’s heartening to know that Leeds Craft Centre & Design Gallery is welcoming us out of lockdown with no fewer than 5 exhibitions.

It’s worth mentioning, of course, that very precaution has been taken to ensure the safety of both staff and visitors as they look forward to welcoming you into the Gallery, but please check their website because the opening hours aren’t the same as you might already be used to.

The gallery space houses some of the work of hundreds of makers – ceramics, print, glass, wood, jewellery and mixed media – and who come together to form the General Display sections of the Craft Centre.

The Set in Stone Jewellery exhibition, which remains in the City until 31st October, takes a look at innovative approaches to handmade contemporary jewellery by some of the most talented makers in the UK today. This curious exhibition explores alternative settings and materials and brings to the attention the diversity of materials UK makers use in their handmade collections today, including porcelain, sea glass, aluminium, pebbles, precious and semi-precious stones.

Carin Lindberg is one of the talented jewellers taking part.  Inspired by her strong Swedish heritage and her beautiful Cornish surroundings, Swedish jeweller Carin designs and creates jewellery collections in her workshop on the ruggedly spectacular north Cornish coast.  Her work includes silver, gold, precious and semi-precious gemstones, freshwater pearls and pebbles from her local Cornish beaches.  Unusual and interesting stones inspire the creation of jewellery, ranging from the simple and understated to the more textural and raw, often with contrast and asymmetry.  Carin’s work can be best described as Scandinavian meets Cornish, with jewellery that has natural elegance and organic simplicity.  She displays her work alongside 9 other makers from across the UK and all of the work is for sale.
