Phoenix Dance Theatre Returns to Leeds in October

Phoenix Dance Theatre is bringing its dancers, choreographers and Youth Academy members home for its 8th annual celebration of the company’s work, Phoenix at Home, staged at the Stanley and Audrey Burton Theatre from 18 – 20 October.

The talent of the company’s female choreographers, Sandrine Monin and Sharon Watson, was showcased last year through productions of Calyx and Windrush: Movement of The People.   This year, Sandrine will present an excerpt from her new piece, Kirke.

Phoenix will present Robert North’s world-renowned Troy Game, described by the New York Times as a ‘funny and sexy romp’.  The Youth Academy will perform Spam, choreographed by Michael Marquez.

Artistic Director Sharon Watson had this to say:  “This last year has been amazing for Phoenix.  We have toured around the country with Windrush and its supporting Mixed Programme; we met the Prime Minister, performed at Tilbury Docks, visited China to promote Leeds and Yorkshire as a cultural powerhouse, and now we’re preparing to head home where we always enjoy performing – we were born in Leeds, we live in Leeds and we’re very proud of Leeds.”
