The Sculpture Gallery – Sculpture & Wine: Tasting and Storytelling – on 23 April

The UK’s only gallery led by and for 3D artists will be holding a unique event in the heart of Leeds as the City prepares to host a ‘Summer of Sculpture’.

On 23rd April, wine and art lovers will come together for an evening of tasting and storytelling among the exhibits at The Sculpture Gallery inside the iconic Leeds Corn Exchange.

Guests will sit down with the gallery’s founders to talk sculpture and wine, led by storytellers from specialist, Yorkshire-based events company Terra Sarda Wines.

Terra Sarda Wines’ co-founder and chief taster Sue Scott: “We love staging events in unusual settings and finding the narrative threads that connect them with Sardinia, one of the oldest winemaking regions in the world.

Sculpture, like wine, plays an important part in the cultural history of the island. Probably its most famous forms are the ancient Giants of Mont’e Prama – more than three dozen archers, boxers and warriors that were carved out of sandstone by late Bronze/early Iron Age sculptors to watch over an ancient Nuraghic burial site.

Some of the wines we will be tasting are from the area where the statues were unearthed – and the grape varieties are directly related to the ones grown by Nuraghic winemakers 3,500 years ago.”

The Sculpture Gallery was founded in 2022 as a dedicated independent space for 3D artists in the north of England to display and sell their work. It holds regular open access and guest exhibitions.

Gallery co-founder Steve Williams: “We believe we have created something unique and special as a cooperative of like-minded individuals who share the time, cost and considerable pride in owning and running our own gallery.

We take immense pleasure in meeting and selling our work directly and giving guest artists the opportunity to do the same.

As a business model, we really hope others follow suit, as we feel it gives us the perfect balance between creating work and being able to promote and sell directly to the public.”

Sculpture & Wine: Tasting and Storytelling begins at 5.30pm on 23rd April and includes generous tastings of five Sardinian wines and a guest Yorkshire wine in honour of St George’s Day. The wines will be paired with locally made cheese and traditional Sardinian nibbles.
