Wakefield-born artist Jason Wilsher-Mills exhibits at The City’s newest venue

‘Jason and the Wakefield Adventure’ will run from 20 June to 7 September at WX -Wakefield Exchange.

Artist Jason Wilsher-Mills has welcomed his first large-scale exhibition of work in his hometown – magical, colourful and amusing.

Running alongside the exhibition is a huge programme of activity, walkabout performances, a silent disco, live music, workshops and tours.

The exhibition features several striking inflatable and fiberglass sculptures, including an incredible 20m inflatable sculpture – Jason’s largest and most ambitious artwork to date.

There will also be interactive elements such as an AI powered projection, digital artworks, short films and soundtracks.

Jason Wilsher-Mills who was recently awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours list, was born in Wakefield in 1969. At 11 years old, Jason was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition triggered by chickenpox, which confined him to a wheelchair.

Jason has collaborated with local disabled community groups in Wakefield during the creation of this exhibition.

Through brightly coloured psychedelic inflatables sculptures and interactive digital projections, Jason’s artworks celebrate disability, northern working-class heritage, popular culture and social history.
