A Monday Night Greek Treat from Mythos

On behalf of Leeds Living, myself and my boyfriend ordered a takeaway from Mythos yesterday via Deliveroo. We picked our meals, chose our delivery slot and waited.

We were expecting the food to take a while to arrive owing to the lockdown demand, so had ordered in plenty of time. But when the food arrived after only 20 minutes, we were impressed and grateful as we were hungrier than we’d realised.

Because of the quick delivery, the food was fresh and hot on arrival, which was great. All we needed to do was plate up and enjoy.

I ordered the halloumi box (£9.60) which included grilled cheese, mixed dressed salad with pomegranate, seasoned fries, a flat bread and a large pot of Mythos’ home sauce. My boyfriend opted for the chicken gyros meal (£6.90) which included a warm flat bread, moist chicken breast, dressed salad and fries. Both meals were generous, with more food than I could eat in one sitting, but a perfect portion for my boyfriend.

After reading the description of Mythos on the Deliveroo app, we were looking forward to ‘mind-blowing flavour, and divine food combinations’. Whilst the food itself was good, it didn’t blow me away. Saying that, I don’t think takeaway food ever will. In my box meal, the halloumi was well cooked – slightly melted but with a crispy outside, just how I like it. The salad was tasty, although because it had been in a box with hot items, it had started to wilt; not ideal.

The chicken gyro was ‘very tasty’. The flat bread was soft and the chicken, moist. The sauce was good, but because of the quantity of bread and chicken, the dish could have been improved with an extra dollop of sauce on top. The thickness of the bread and the amount of filling meant that the gyro was very hard to eat. Thankfully, we were at home and the mess didn’t matter!

Disappointingly, the fries in both meals, although well-seasoned and tasty, were soggy. The large portion of fries in the gyro’s meal was not needed and detracted from the otherwise tasty meal. In the halloumi box, the fries had become sweaty and soaked through by the salad dressing, which is one of my pet hates. But I am not sure fries ever travel well. I would have preferred rice as it fares better when delivered, but that is down to a personal preference.

Despite the soggy fries, we both enjoyed our meals from Mythos. We were thankful for not having to cook as it was a welcome treat after a busy day. We were also happy to support and indie, as like so many others, they are making every effort to continue to keep going despite the difficult circumstances.

If you haven’t already, give Mythos a try.
