Ecco Pizzeria at Headingley

In normal circumstances, myself and my boyfriend would go to out for dinner at least once a week as part of our Leeds Food Guide responsibilities.

Because of this, we don’t usually order takeaways. But three weeks into lockdown, we are both missing meals out, so I suggested that we look for takeaway options we could enjoy at home. Leeds Living was also looking for some restaurant reviews to support Leeds’ indies who have been able to continue in business in some way, so I jumped at the chance of ordering a takeaway and writing up my views.

I started searching for meal options and was amazed at how many Leeds restaurants are offering takeaways, many of which have only started doing so since lockdown commenced. You only need to do an internet search and you will see all the restaurants near you that are offering takeaway.

Whilst scrolling to find a takeaway option, I remembered seeing a sign saying that Ecco Pizzeria in Headingley was still offering their home delivery service. As myself and my boyfriend have been to Ecco many times before, and have always loved their thin crust, well topped pizzas, which they can offer in ½ metre sizes, the decision to order a takeaway from Ecco was not hard to make.

To decide what to eat, and to make our order, we headed to the Ecco Pizzeria website. Their takeaway menu is just as extensive as their sit in alternative, with pizzas suitable for everyone. We struggled to decide what to order – I was keen to try out one of the Ecco signature creations whilst my boyfriend wanted something meaty. We decided to opt for the ‘Carne’, a pizza topped with pepperoni, ham and wood fired chicken on a tomato base with mozzarella. We made our order via the online platform and opted for the quickest delivery.

The pizza arrived within 60 minutes of ordering. Whilst that felt like quite a long time for me, considering the restaurant is less than 2 miles away, it was just so nice not to have to cook. The delivery driver was also considerate of the current guidance and gave us the option of picking the pizza up from the top of his car, as a contact-free option. When we got the pizza inside and opened the box, the pizza was hot and the cheese well melted. The toppings were generous and well spread out. I added some extra salad and removed some of the meat, but that is just my preference, whilst my boyfriend loved the pizza just as it was. We easily devoured the whole thing and are already planning our next order from Ecco.

Overall, ordering a takeaway from Ecco Pizzeria was easy and the pizza was tasty and satisfying. It was so nice to have a restaurant treat whilst at home, without breaking the bank. I would encourage others to support their favourite local restaurants, and treat themselves, by ordering a takeaway this week.
