Green Room – A Cosy Winter Hideaway

Phoebe Haley Gets Festive on Green Room’s Winter Terrace

The rooftop terrace at Green Room has had itself a makeover and is the perfect place to grab a drink and bite to eat with your friends this festive period. The outdoor space has been transformed from a sun-capturing beer terrace to a more cosy hideaway where you can enjoy some signature cocktails under the warmth of the heat lamps and glowing lights. The terrace is lit with streams of cute fairy lights, creating a low-lit atmosphere, all completely covered to make certain that the classic British winter weather doesn’t catch you out.

Green Room’s owners have not only transformed the space into a cosy winter hideaway, but have also been working with local breweries, food vendors and distilleries to bring a range of food and drink to celebrate the City’s local talents and showcase the best the north has to offer. These include North Brewing Co, Kirkstall Brewery, Northern Monk, Wolfe Bros, Braizin Squad and Homeboy Pizza.

Festive feast

What’s better than a warming Sunday roast on a cold winter’s afternoon? Well, Green Room have you sorted on that front, teaming up with local food vendor Braizin’ Squad to deliver Green Room’s first ever ‘proper’ roast as well as some unique festive favourites. All this can be enjoyed on the atmospheric terrace, paired well with one of the bar’s signature cocktails.

Alongside this, Homeboy’s Pizza will be starting your week off just right with their mouth watering New York / Neapolitan style pizza slices. Taking over the kitchen Monday and Tuesday nights, these guys will be sure to see you through the early week blues with their exceptional flavour combinations.

Kegs from Kirkstall

A beer supplier to keep your eye out for on the shelves of the bar this winter season is Kirkstall Brewery. This small local team work together to create an exciting new range of beers every season, to match both the environment they are being served in as well as the food supplied alongside the beer.

Beer Account Manager Eshaan Kapoor explained “It’s all about relationship…..We are for everyone and that’s the beauty about it” when he revealed the two companies have been working in partnership to create a beer that will be solely supplied to Green Room for the winter season. This idea of building a unique and inter-personal relationship runs deep into the roots of the brewery and is very important to them when choosing their suppliers. Kirkstall brewery’s supply list varies – from some of the smallest bars in your local area, to some of the biggest restaurants in the UK. This is because “[They] don’t follow a stereotype of supplier” and believe it is more about what they can do for the establishment, not how much money is coming back to them at the end of the week.

Some of the beers available at Green Room will be Pilsner Unfiltered Lager, a range of fruity pale ales and stout.

Wolfe Bros Winter Warmers

Taking up residency on the bar’s spirit shelf is local distillery and IWSC 2022 award winners Wolfe Bros, serving up some of the finest seasonal flavours to make your winter tipple even more warming and tasteful. Jonathan Neil, owner of Wolfe Bros, as well as local bars ‘Roland’s’ and ‘The Domino Club’ highlighted the time and research that had gone into the pairings of flavours found in their line of gins available at Green Room.

“We make our flavours unique and tailored to the season in order for people not only to want to drink them, but also enjoy them in the right atmosphere and ambiance. With such a saturated market for spirits, we wanted to make our gin taste like gin, all the while serving the flavours it says on the bottle….. none of the sugary stuff most places produce.”

Some of the flavours available to try this winter will be the classic London Dry, Raspberry and Hibiscus and Pear and Fig; a personal favourite.

In addition to stocking some brilliant brews from the north, Green Room has given their own drinks menu a bit of a seasonal twist. While most of their signature cocktails and range of wines are still on offer, they have been crafting some new concoctions to give you that extra layer of warmth on the colder nights.

The winter terrace should definitely be one of your top choices when choosing where to wind down after work or planning to catch up with friends on the weekend. With a great selection of food and drink, as well as a cosy, atmospheric space to keep warm, you don’t need to stray far to find the perfect place.
