Kerala Canteen: Curry and Comedy on 30 September

Two things that put a smile on my face are comedy and curry. What a great idea to bring the two together.

Kerala Canteen, named as one of the top 100 Indian restaurants in the UK, will be presenting an evening of Indian food followed by two hours of comedy on 30 September. Consultant chef Bobby Geetha, who you might have seen on Masterchef or the Great British Menu, is always looking for ways to make dining more attractive and this looks like a winner.

I am a fan of venues that combine entertainment and food. However, eating options in comedy or music venues are often limited to pizza, burgers or tapas; understandable when catering is not their main business. Curry and comedy sounds wonderfully indulgent.

Each diner will be given a glass of Prosecco, alternatives of a soft drink or beer available, then choose a tapas, curry and side. I suggest going with friends so you can share dishes, as well as sharing a laugh. I find it hard to choose between the beef and bone marrow curry, the creamy paneer and peas, or the lamb and chickpea masala. On the other hand, this will might be the day I try the salmon green mango curry. Whatever I choose, it will be paired with one of their lovely flaky porottas. Whatever you choose, it will be delicious.

Dinner will be served from 6.30-7.30 and then it will be time to relax, have a laugh, and digest your food. Three comedians will be performing, Daliso Chaponda, Kieran Lawless, and Dominic Woodward. There are only 50 seats available, making it an intimate performance. The bar will be offering a 20% discount on drinks throughout the comedy.

Booking for the comedy is through Eventbrite. Book your tickets then reserve a table to dine. For £45 you will receive a Prosecco, Indian meal and two hours of comedy. Seems like a bargain to me.
