Liz Cottam (HOME, The Owl and CORA) Competes on Great British Menu

The North East & Yorkshire will be represented by Liz Cottam when Great British Menu airs from Tuesday 8 March.

With Andi Oliver presenting, and a new panel of judges, the theme is Celebrating 100 Year of British Broadcasting.’ Judges include Michelin starred, Tom Kerridge, Restaurateur Nisha Katona, and Comedian and Food Podcast Presenter Ed Gamble.

Liz’s co-competitors are Bobby Geetha (Leeds’ Fleur Cafe), Luke French (Joro, Sheffield) and Mark Aisthorpe (The Bull’s Head, Holymoorside).

As one of the busiest chefs in the country, Liz is clearly delighted to be making an appearance on the show:

“I’m so, so excited to be representing Yorkshire/NE in this series. The brief is easily one of the best they’ve ever done – celebrating 100 years of British Broadcasting. With so many iconic shows set and created in our region, I had loads of
inspiration. The ones that I eventually chose all have some special significance to me. It was a really engaging and emotional process to establish a personal connection with a collection of TV moments that meant something to me and creatively bring that to life through food. What a brilliant opportunity to be able to do this! Having only become a pro chef in the last few years, it was a real honour to be invited on. What an experience to be a part of!”

HOME moved into a riverside space at Granary Wharf in November 2021, offering diners contrasting experiences: The terrace for special occasions, a wine room for showcasing menu flavours, and a space with the kitchen in the centre, promoting a communal feel.

Business partner Mark Owens, is revisiting plans with Liz to add an Oyster Loft to the space above The Owl, and will make an announcement about an exciting move later in 2022. CORA, a contemporary bakehouse in Boston Spa, has received praise from diners and critics since its opening in summer 2021.

There are exciting times for Liz and for Mark as they build on their hard work during the pandemic years.

Great British Menu is on BBC2, starting this Tuesday 8 March at 8 p.m.
