That’s the One! Prashad Celebrates Zayn Malik’s Seal of Approval with 1,000 Free Chaats.
Award-winning Leeds restaurant Prashad is inviting diners to enjoy a taste of a global superstar’s go-to order, after the former One Direction star revealed the restaurant as his favourite UK takeaway.
Prashad’s famous samosa chaat became the talking point of two Q&A sessions hosted by Banquet Records in Kingston on Thursday, 20 May, when the Bradford-born singer was asked about his must-have Deliveroo order and what he misses most when away from the UK.
During the first exchange, when asked whether there was a particular dish or Deliveroo order he craved as soon as he arrived back in the UK, Zayn replied:“So there’s this place in Leeds, it’s called Prashad.”
His answer prompted cheers from the audience before he smiled and added: “People seem to know it. And they do this amazing samosa chaat there, so I always get it.”
Later in the evening, when asked what the best thing about being home was, he mentioned his mum’s cooking before he once again singled out the restaurant, saying: “Prashad. I get samosa chaat from there every time I’m back, so yeah, that’s the one!”
Prashad’s own social media post featuring the exchanges, with footage kindly supplied by fan Danielle McMinn, has already been viewed more than 500,000 times. The video received an outpouring of support from Prashad’s customers in comments, who called the dish “the best chaat EVER” and described the menu as the best Indian food they’d ever had from anywhere.
Following the viral fan reaction to the moment, Prashad owners Bobby and Minal Patel have announced they will give away 1,000 complimentary portions of their signature chaat to celebrate. Customers who visit the restaurant or order takeaway direct from Prashad between now and the end of July simply need to ask for “Zayn’s favourite” to receive the dish free of charge, while stocks last.
Samosa chaat is a vibrant Indian street food dish that combines smashed, hot samosas with chickpeas, potato, yoghurt, chilli and tangy tamarind dressing, creating what Head Chef Minal Patel describes as “a medley of textures, where sweet meets tangy in a way you just can’t get enough of.”
Bobby Patel added: “It’s the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for us. It’s always been our most popular dish, and clearly Zayn has great taste. Once you try it, you just get it. We want to share that experience with as many people as possible.”
Originally opened as a deli in 1992 by Bobby’s parents, Prashad remains family-run, with Bobby and Minal continuing to champion bold, authentic flavours rooted in tradition, while bringing a contemporary edge to Indian dining.
