Three members of Johns Boys Welsh Male Voice Choir visited Leeds on Friday 30 August in advance of their forthcoming performance at Leeds Grand Theatre on 14 September.
We’ll tell you about the Choir’s performance at the Children’s Hospital in our next review.
St Gemma’s Hospice Meets Johns’ Boys:
St Gemma’s Hospice offered a bright and sunny environment for day patients to have an exclusive performance from Johns’ Boys Choir ahead of their UK tour.
Nicola Woodgate and Shona Eyre from St Gemma’s helped organise the performance so patients, friends and family could come together for a singsong. This performance was one of the many social activities the hospice organises for patients and families – and one of the many places that Johns’ Boys have been visiting in communities across the country.
Greeted with cups of tea and lyric sheets, guests could choose from amongst the ample seating in the gorgeous conservatory. It was a lovely environment and you could see so much enjoyment from the staff as well as the guests. The staff at St Gemma’s are clearly very passionate about ensuring anyone who steps through the doors is warmly welcomed and comfortable.
Three of the members from Johns’ Boys Choir – Aled, Tom and David – gave a brilliant talk about how the choir formed, its history and origin of the name, and the exciting future that awaits in the form of a UK tour.
Songs from the performance were a mixture of pop covers such as Lewis Capaldi and Calum Scott, together with more traditional arrangements of Welsh hymns. This was a performance for all the family. The sound of such strong, bold voices coming together and harmonising beautifully completely filled the room.
Tickets are still available here for Leeds Grand Theatre on 14 September, when the Choir will be joined by John Owen-Jones.
EDITOR’S NOTE: At a time when we might otherwise lose heart, we are uplifted by the true community spirit of those such as Johns’ Boys Choir, who bring joy to people who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to see them perform. So the Leeds Living team says a huge thank you to all the Boys. We wish them success and happiness always.
