Lines of Flight: Album Launch at The Attic on 7 March

Lines of Flight launch their album ‘Hosts of Nowhere’ on March 7th at The Attic in Leeds with a full line up of supports.

The band are the dream-wave, synth-pop project of Matthew Henderson and Helen Whale, formed when the two met online during the first COVID lockdown. The duo began creating music remotely, exchanging ideas to navigate the unease of isolation, recording early material using only iPhones and headphones as microphones.

Since 2020, they have have crafted emotionally resonant, electro-infused tracks drawing influence from Cocteau Twins, Depeche Mode and The Cure, balancing atmospheric introspection with driving synth-pop intensity and have been described by Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music) as “A vivid reimagining of early ’80s electropop for the 21st century”.

In 2023 the project expanded into a full five-piece lineup, with: Caris Shekell on bass, Owen RadfordLloyd playing synths and Tom Surman behind the drums.

Fast forward in to last year and as well as supporting Miki Berenyi on her sold out Leeds date, Lines of Flight also launched an ambitious bi-monthly series of five double A-side releases, continuing their exploration of grief, urgency and irreversible change through sweeping electronic textures and stark emotional contrasts. The final instalment in the series, ‘Edgelands // Reprisal,’ was released this month. All ten tracks from these singles are collected on the new album Hosts of Nowhere, available on vinyl, CD and streaming.

Also joining them on the night will be The State of Georgia fronted by singer songwriter (and bassist in recently reformed indie pop band The Research) Georgia Jakubiak and The New Mysteries who are the imaginary house band at The Bang Bang Bar (aka ‘The Roadhouse’) in the fictional town of Twin Peaks.

Their music explores themes and characters from Twin Peaks: The Return, David Lynch’s acclaimed 2017 exhumation of his original TV phenomenon, 25 years on. On stage, expect visuals, guest vocals, dialogue clips and occasional covers from The Bang Bang Bar jukebox.

Doors are at 7.30pm and tickets are available via Skiddle for £10 (plus booking fee) in advance, or £14 to pay on the door.

The Attic venue has a capacity of 200 and is located at 3 Sheaf Street, LS10 1HD to the side of the newly developed Aire Park.
