Finding Calm in the Heart of Horsforth: A Visit to The Yoga Space

Tucked between independent coffee spots, cool shops and opposite the ever-popular Zero Muda on New Road Side in Horsforth, you’ll find a blue door that leads to something special: The Yoga Space.

This tranquil studio opened its doors in March of this year, and is quickly establishing itself as a haven for relaxation, movement and mindfulness in the heart of the community.

I was invited to try out a class at The Yoga Space and share my experience with Leeds Living. After a busy week, and a typically chaotic Leeds drive that ran longer than expected, I arrived at the studio with just minutes to spare. But the moment I stepped inside, the outside world melted away.

Walking up the stairs to the studio, you’re greeted with calm. The space is light, serene and thoughtfully designed – wooden floors, soft lighting, and gentle music create a sense of immediate ease. I took off my shoes, dropped my bag (which I later found out can be stored neatly in the hallway), and stepped into my yoga flow class with founder, Nichi.

The class was small, just three of us, but seeing as it was 10am on a weekday I was not too surprised! Being in a small class was great; it meant that we each had the benefit of Nichi’s full attention. She guided us through a gently challenging flow, letting us know where to focus and what to change to get the most out of each movement. I’ll admit that stretching and mindfulness often fall to the bottom of my to-
do list (despite knowing full well that they are good for me!), so having a full hour dedicated solely to both was a welcome change. The session was the perfect mix of movement and stillness, strength and softness – I particularly appreciated the opportunity to hold positions and feel my body relax.

What stood out most about the flow class was the atmosphere Nichi created. The music – subtle, but exotic – was the perfect backdrop, helping me feel present and focused on the class in hand. It felt a million miles from the busy road below and kept my mind from wandering to my work to-do list. Nichi’s calm presence, friendly guidance and knowledge of yoga put me at ease. She switched between leading from the front of the class, to moving around the room, demonstrating positions and offering gentle corrections and encouragement, helping each of us refine our practice. Her teaching felt intuitive, warm and well considered.

After finishing the class, Nichi mentioned that the space boasts a small kitchen where you can grab a herbal tea or refill your water before heading home, or into the studio. I think this is a thoughtful touch, especially welcome on warm summer days.

Whilst The Yoga Space is still new, and figuring out the best approach to take with schedules, the class offer (which you can find on their website) is good and growing all the time, with daily classes and new additions in the works, including a hot yoga class launching soon.

But yoga is only part of the picture. The Yoga Space is positioning itself as a wellbeing hub for the local community. Alongside yoga classes, the studio offers therapy, meditation, and workshops, all designed to support both physical and mental health. The emphasis is on holistic wellbeing, and it shows. There is also scope for people to hire the space for other events, and retreats, which indicates that there could be even more on offer soon.

There’s also real flexibility in how you can join and take part in the classes on offer.
Pricing is fair and inclusive, with drop in sessions priced at £12, and then several class pass options also available. The Try Yoga Pass offers 5 classes for just £35 (valid for 8 weeks), is perfect for newcomers wanting to test the waters. A 10-class pass is £90 and valid for four months. For regulars, the best value lies in the unlimited options, monthly unlimited classes are £60, while an annual pass is £550. If I lived closer, I’d be tempted by that myself.

For those who prefer to practice at home, or live further afield, The Yoga Space also runs online yoga classes. Subscriptions start at under £8 a month, making it incredibly accessible. And if you’re dreaming bigger, and want something you can look forward to with friends or family? They even offer retreats. Think yoga, wild swimming, and massage in beautiful, peaceful settings – not too far from Leeds. You can find details about upcoming retreats on their website, and they look dreamy.

In a world that rarely slows down, The Yoga Space is an invitation to pause. Whether you’re an experienced yogi or a complete beginner, there’s something about this studio that feels instantly welcoming. It’s early days for this new space, but it’s already making a big impression. I left the building feeling lighter, calmer and more connected – much appreciated on a Friday heading into the long weekend.

If you’re in or around Horsforth and looking for a space to stretch, breathe, and reset, head to that blue door. I will certainly be heading back to The Yoga Space for more stretching, flow and relaxation soon.
