Brand new Leeds hip-hop theatre show 93 ’til Infinity comes to Leeds Slung Low The Warehouse in Holbeck, exploring hip-hop, friendship, memory and the City’s cultural history.
93 ’til Infinity follows three former teenage friends who are brought back together at a museum exhibition. As they reconnect, the music and memories of their youth begin to pull them back to Leeds in the early 1990s – a time of beats, crews, youth clubs, possibility, pressure and change.
Rooted in Leeds hip-hop culture, the show explores friendship, class, race, growing up, falling out and the complicated ways people remember the past.
The production also includes the first ever redisplay of some of the most popular parts of 50 years of Kulture, connecting the performance to a wider celebration of Leeds’ place in hip-hop history.
Written by Ruth Cooper-Rowan and Ed Heaton, 93 ’til Infinity is directed by Rachael Halliwell, with movement direction by Xolani Crabtree, lyrics by Testament and Ed Heaton, design by Emma Williams, music by Ed Heaton, and produced by Katy Hayley.
Co-writer Ed Heaton: “93 ’til Infinity is a Leeds story. It’s about the music, places and friendships that shape you when you’re young – and what happens when those memories come back years later.
We want the show to celebrate Leeds and the culture that shaped it – the music, the friendships, the places, and the people who helped make the City’s hip-hop story what it is. It’s about looking back with love, while being honest about how complicated memory can be.”
The production is also running a Crowdfunder to help keep the show Pay-What-You-Decide and support the cost of remounting 50 Years of Hip-Hop Kulture.
The production is aimed at audiences interested in new writing, hip-hop, Leeds history, community stories, music, memory and contemporary theatre.
