Ten Bar Underground – A safe space for Leeds’ students

Voodoo Events, a leading events company in the North with a reputation for the biggest and best parties, has taken a fresh approach to the nightlife calendar for students in Leeds.

They have extended Ten Bar to include the nearby Space Nightclub to produce Ten Bar Underground. All events in the space have been carefully designed so as to be safe, socially distanced – and provide party fun for freshers’ week and onwards.

Ten Bar Underground has been carefully designed to enable the ultimate party atmosphere with a strong focus on safety and social responsibility

Voodoo has worked closely with risk assessors and the local council to add both indoor and outdoor events at venues like The Shed, Temple Arches, Popworld and Revolution.

It is hoped the measures taken will meet with the approval of the police, who have had their work cut out to deal with illegal gatherings for the past few months.

Dave Gardner-Chan, Voodoo Events Co-Founder and Managing Director, had this to say on the industry shake-up:

“Throughout the summer the whole industry has been waiting for news on whether clubs could open, and freshers would happen. We realised it was unlikely so decided to put together an alternative set of events for both students and locals. After lots of positive Zoom meetings with all the relevant agencies and student bodies, we’re over the moon to have a brand-new line-up of 8 weekly events launching this September.’

We realise we have an enormous responsibility to both our customers and the general public to deliver professionally managed, risk assessed, responsible events. We decided to close our club nights before the Government enforced it because we felt it was the right thing to do. We’ve spent many late nights planning these new events to ensure that the new and returning students have a safe place to enjoy themselves rather than choosing to go to unregulated house parties or illegal raves.”

Ten Bar Underground provides full seating with table service and an impressive audio-visual system. Dave said:

“We’ve been delighted about the response we’ve had at Ten Bar since we reopened in July. Space and Ten Bar trade on the same license, so when it became apparent that Space Nightclub would be unable to open, we decided to adapt the venue and rebrand it as Ten Bar Underground. The feel will be quite different, but we hope to keep the fun atmosphere of both venues, providing the best experience we can, with safety in mind.”

As for the other venues, Secret Yard Social will take place on Mondays at Temple Arches, offering great street food, DJs and entertainment in a large, outdoor space.

One of Voodoo’s biggest events, Quids In, will this year be a mini version taking place at Popworld, Revolution and Walkabout. Each venue will represent one of the music policies from its spiritual home, Pryzm.

Skint will reside at Ten Bar and Ten Bar Underground each Thursday, with an eclectic mix of party-centric tunes to usher in the weekend.

Red’s True Barbecue will team up with Voodoo for weekend brunches at Red’s HQ, The Shed, for a new bottomless brunch concept and beers from Red’s own micro-brewery.

Before you go!

Be sure to book a table on the Voodoo website. Be prepared that strictly enforced Track and Trace measures will be in place and orders taken via apps.

Dave had this to say ahead of the Voodoo Events launch:

“The city’s economy will get a huge and welcomed boost from the arrival of thousands of students. Leeds is an amazing City and lots of businesses will find enterprising ways to provide them with the best experiences, despite 2020 being such a tricky year. We can’t wait to get back to what we do best.”
