Here’s a message from Sela Bar, looking forward to – not one but three – celebrations in February. Share the moments!
We are a small, independent, family run, grassroots late night music venue and bar and you can find us down the red stairs in the basement of 20 New Briggate. For the past 21 years, we have provided a stage for the region’s finest musicians to play. We are a hidden gem – a cosy date spot in the week and the perfect place to grab a delicious late night pizza with pals.
At the weekend we really come alive, with DJ’s spinning all sorts of funk, soul & disco party bangers for revellers to boogie the night away to. Music is massively important to us here at Sela; we even host a monthly charity music quiz in which music lovers are encouraged to test their knowledge for top prizes, all in aid of a great cause. (I believe this is the original & best music quiz in town) We also host comedy nights, movie screenings, art exhibitions & much much more.
We are super proud of all we’ve done in the past 21 years and think it’s a real achievement to have made it this far (especially in today’s current climate) which is why I’m getting in touch to try and spread the news far and wide about our birthday celebrations.
On Thursday 20th February we will be throwing a big old party including LIVE BAND BEATLES KARAOKE, where guests will be invited to take to the stage and belt out their fave Beatles bangers, accompanied by a live band – the fabulous Louis Louis Louis. On Friday 21st we’ll be throwing it back to the decade we were born with and throwing it back Y2K style with our NOUGHTIES PARTY, including DJ’s spinning all the best nostalgic noughties bangers for you to dance the night away to, plus pizza, pints, cake, themed throwback cocktails & lots of fun! 00’s attire is very much encouraged.
…..and finally on Saturday 22nd we’ll be hosting an evening with some legendary Sela Bar DJ’s from years gone by on the decks playing classic funk, soul, motown and more that have soundtracked 20 New Briggate for the past 21 years.

Tickets are PAY AS YOU FEEL with a £5 suggested donation – All the money goes to the bands and helps to keep our live music programme running at Sela. There will be a tip jar on the evening should you wish to buy the band a drink.
