Leeds’ Lucky Iris: at Belgrave Music Hall on 30 May

Head-turning hyper-pop Leeds duo Lucky Iris released their new EP Day To Night via Universal Production Music’s Focus label on 7 May.

Lucky Iris’ latest offering encompasses a fresh assortment of crunchy pop hooks fused with pulse-pounding beats. Each track on the EP sees the duo push previously explored tempos to new extremes, unleashing a barrage of future club anthems that feel both timeless and way ahead of the curve. “This piece of work is a kind of re-introduction to us, we finally feel as though the music we’re producing represents the music we want to hear and we’re really excited about that,” Lucky Iris members, Maeve and Jasper, explain.

Armed with only a MIDI keyboard, microphone, laptop and speakers, the pair’s latest body of work offers a glimpse into the perpetually evolving Lucky Iris sound. The EP’s title track sets the tone for the duo’s boldest sonic statement yet, brimming with Confidence Man-style lyrical inflections and the gritty, irresistible energy of Fcukers. Taken as a whole, Day To Night demonstrates Lucky Iris’ maturation into fully-fledged, forward-thinking producers, delivering an EP that is in equal parts mischief, muscle and magnetic presence.

The Day To Night EP arrives fresh off the heels of a momentous 2024 for Lucky Iris, as their Something To Believe In EP (EMI North / Launchpad+) sparked attention from BBC Radio 1’s Jess Iszatt, and secured the duo support slots alongside Master Peace, Dorian Electra, and Hannah Diamond. Lifelong Tottenham Hotspur fans, the pair also brought their alt-pop world to the realm of football last year through a feature on Sky News, and a unique collaboration with the club, appearing in a pitch-side interview as part of the team’s Pre-Match Warm Up series.

Day To Night serves not only as a bold step forward, but also as a re-introduction to the Lucky Iris universe, firmly reinforcing their identity as Leeds’ defining alternative pop act.
