Live at Kirkstall Abbey: 26 – 28 July

Over fifteen thousand music-lovers are expected to attend a weekend of music and comedy – the inaugural Live at Kirkstall Abbey – brought to you by Futuresound.

The first ‘Live At Kirkstall Abbey’ series of summer events is due to begin later this month with a trio of thoughtfully curated shows encompassing music and comedy, bringing a diverse range of entertainment to the grounds of the popular Leeds landmark for three days from Friday 26th July.

Madness

Kickstarting the series on the opening night of proceedings are iconic ska-pop masters Madness, bringing their remarkable catalogue of much-loved songs to the historic venue for a truly special headline set. Joining them are very special guests: Leeds’ own indie heroes The Pigeon Detectives, a long-awaited return from Liverpudlians The Zutons, and an opening set from promising Carlisle quintet Hardwicke Circus.

Embrace

Meanwhile, Saturday 27th July sees celebrated local stalwarts Embrace return to West Yorkshire home-turf as they celebrate 20 years of their seminal album ‘Out Of Nothing’ in what promises to be an evening to remember, bringing with them an incredible supporting cast including much-loved English quartet Ocean Colour Scene, Northern Irish indie veterans Ash, Britpop icons Sleeper, and fellow Yorkshire legends Cud.

Katherine Ryan

Rounding off the weekend, Sunday 28th July will host performances from an extraordinary array of comedy talent as the grounds of the 12th century Cistercian monastery becomes the home of the first-ever Kirkstall Abbey Comedy Festival.  The first large-scale, open-air comedy festival to happen in Leeds, the event will bring hilarious appearances from award-winning Canadian comedian Katherine Ryan, Newcastle stand-up legend Ross Noble, renowned Yorkshire comic Maisie Adam, American sensation Reginald D. Hunter, Phoenix Nights’ psychic star Clinton Baptiste, writer and comedian Mike Wozniak, Ivo Graham, Stephen Bailey and Jeff Innocent.

The series will host the first live music events of this size at Kirkstall Abbey since Kaiser Chiefs’ legendary performances back in 2011. The shows also promise to bring visitors to Leeds from outside the City, providing them with a unique opportunity to witness world-class entertainment in a spectacular one–of-a-kind setting.

Live at Kirkstall Abbey is presented by independent Yorkshire promoters Futuresound. Having worked on incredible concerts and festivals around Yorkshire for decades, Futuresound are the team behind events including Live At LeedsSlam Dunk Festival and Ed Sheera’s unforgettable performances at Roundhay Park, working with world-famous acts like Sam Fender and Lewis Capaldi from their very first shows in the region through to impressive arena performances and large-scale outdoor concerts.

Andy Smith –  Director, Futuresound Group:We’re totally thrilled to finally have this exciting programme of events landing at Kirkstall Abbey later this month – the response to announcing this series has been truly immense. With Futuresound having been behind the 2011 Kaiser Chiefs shows back in the day, we’ve been looking to return live music to this unique location for some time now and I’m incredibly proud of what the team has put together here. With top-quality entertainment appearing across both music and comedy, we really think there’s something for everyone over the weekend.”
