Local Musician Launches Music Platform During Lockdown

The 99 Second Playlist is a new music platform, the brainchild of Yorkshire musician George Reid. George has spent lockdown in collaboration with other musicians to offer music people may well not have heard before.

George’s YouTube page releases a video every week – which is never more than 99 seconds long – and this Thursday 28th May at 6p.m. will mark the 10th week of the project, which currently has an audience over over 300.

George said: “The challenge is to get the best parts of any song into 99 seconds. Not only is this quite a challenge for musicians, but in a world where people flick through social media feeds so quickly, you’ve got a very limited amount of time to capture someone’s attention. It dissuades musicians from making long, self-indulgent music videos that we know people won’t watch. The goal is to create projects that musicians and audiences can enjoy in equal measure.”

Actors, George Griffiths (Book of Mormon International Tour), Eilidh Loan (Frankenstein, UK Tour) and Tom Berkeley (Buddy The Musical), together with professional musician, Alex Barton, have been George’s collaborators, and he intends to widen the circle in the months to come.

The 99 Second Playlist has so far included songs from The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Ed Sheeran, Bill Withers and Les Misérables, with the aim of continuing to 52 weeks.
