Venus Grrrls: New Single

UK queens of riot VENUS GRRRLS released female empowerment anthem “Hex” on Halloween via Lab Records.

“This is what I’m talking about, by being bold in your music” – Jack Saunders (BBC Radio 1)
“2023 belongs to VENUS GRRRLS”  – Nels Hylton (BBC Radio 1)
“A band who really sound like they want to make things happen; to affect some kind of change”  – Steve Lamacq (BBC 6 Music)

Born from Riot Grrrl, VENUS GRRRLS are an alternative rock band from Leeds. From twinkling synth motifs to raspy guitar lines, the girls present the dark yet empowering discourse surrounding their own synergistic experiences.

Using dark magic to bring the misdeeds of men to light, VENUS GRRRLS aren’t holding back this Halloween. Drawing on a negative encounter the band shared together which became the catalyst for the song, Hex unapologetically speaks out against the far too common experience of harassment. Whilst demanding the antagonist faces the consequences of his actions, the Grrrls seek to encourage victims of such incidents to reclaim their power and call out these harmful behaviours.

‘Hex is an ode to womenkind, touching on the universal experience of harassment. In the landscape of Hex, there are consequences for such behaviour, and generates a reality where we take the power back for ourselves. We are scared, and we are frustrated with the tale as old as time; we all have a story when we shouldn’t.’ – GK, vocalist.

2023 saw VENUS GRRRLS return with searing singles ‘Lidocaine’ and ‘Liar Liar”, reflecting on GK’s recovery from Leukaemia. Achieving 2 Spotify editorial covers (Shockwave and Fresh Finds: UK & IE) and further Spotify editorial playlists (New Music Friday UK, Fresh Finds, The Locker, All New Rock, Hot New Bands, Fresh Finds: Rock), and Breakthrough Rock and Fresh Rock on Amazon Music as well as national radio play on BBC Radio 1 from Jack Saunders, Alyx Holcombe and as Nels Hylton’s Future FlavourTrack of the Week from BBC Radio Tees, plays from BBC Introducing West Yorkshire and BBC Radio Newcastle, Radio X from John Kennedy, and making the Amazing Radio A list. With their live return now in full swing, VENUS GRRRLS are becoming an undeniable force to be reckoned with.

With singer/rhythm guitarist Grace Kelly (GK) fronting the band, she is joined with Hannah Barraclough (Bass), Eliza Lee (Lead Guitar), Grace Stubbings (Synth) and Gabby Cooke (Drums). A live profile supporting Dream Wife, Black Honey, and Crawlers, and as heard on the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Radio X, Sirius XM, and BBC Introducing, VENUS GRRRLS seeks to bring their gothic and ethereal aesthetics to an international audience.
