Leeds Author Anne-Louise Quinton’s Debut Novel Published

Some people die and that’s the end. Others get placed ‘on hold’ because they are still connected to someone or something in the present.

Only when they have passed on their knowledge can they rest. Three separate, but strikingly similar incidents occur within days of each other, to normal people, living ordinary lives. Elinor, Ed and Harry each receive a short, barely audible phone call from people they are very fond of. They are told they must solve an urgent problem.

Their calls are no coincidence and serve to connect the group and send them on a supernatural adventure. As they explore the mystery, they discover a post-retirement life they never expected. The group must use their skills and knowledge to work out what has been going on and what needs to be done to complete their mission.

Set in no-nonsense Yorkshire, with humour to match, they uncover a set of questions they did not search for, but are compelled to answer. As much as the group embraced modern technology and the digital world, they realise they must use their analogue pasts, too. Will they make it in time? The question is, would you hang up on a ghost?

About the author

Anne-Louise Quinton lives and works in Leeds and Yorkshire. Following an accomplished career in art and design education, a persistent idea for a great story led her to write her debut novel On Hold while her life was very much on hold with a broken leg. Used to inspiring and entertaining her students with tall tales, now she keeps readers rapt with the same energy and experience. Drawing on a lifelong love of classic ghost stories and a strong belief in practical skills and creative thinking, her writing captures both the wit and wickedness of the North in equal measure.
