Girl Scout at The Brudenell on 6 October

Brudenell Social Club welcomed fans and music fanatics for a night that was filled with stunning and unforgettable live music, performed by indie-pop band Girl Scout.

The atmosphere in the crowded space was buzzing from the get-go, with a queue of people waiting at the bar (I was part of it, eager to order my cheeky diet coke).

As the stage was set up, pale blue lighting was taken as a cue to gather for the first act, alt-indie singer Fiona-Lee!

Fiona-Lee went through her set with ease, armed with her beautiful electric guitar and bathed in the beautiful warm blue light. She had no trouble winning the hearts of the audience with her acoustic songs and soulful vocals. ( I must also add her stunning hair!) Her performance left everyone swaying and speechless, her heartfelt lyrics resonating deeply as she sang a mixture of her both her released and unreleased songs. Adding to the charm, Fiona-Lee’s love for Brudenell’s famous pies became a humorous topic of conversation with the crowd. Her set was definitely a strong start to the night.

As the stage transformed, the crowd knew it was time for the next act – Girl Scout! The Swedish band wasted no time in forming a bond with their audience, teaching the crowd how to say ‘cheers’ in Swedish (skål!). Their upbeat music effortlessly made everybody in the crowd dance to the rhythm – and a touch of humour sealed the deal.

Songs that the band performed such as ‘Mothers and Fathers’ had the entire audience dancing on their feet, with the drumbeat echoing throughout the building. Girl Scout’s stage presence was truly magical, and so inviting. There were moments of synchronised dancing and instrumental solos that showcased the band’s genuine enjoyment of their craft as well as their passion for the art that they created. Additionally, the stage lighting added to the allure, alternating and mixing between a beautiful blue hue and a neon pink glow, illuminating all four band members.

Personal favourites, such as ‘Weirdo’ showcased Girl Scout’s uniqueness and ability to keep the crowd (and me!) engaged. Everyone was completely immersed, bobbing their heads to the beats and being reeled in on their performances.

The band’s passion and control over the stage was impressive as they seamlessly transitioned from high-energy tracks to heartfelt ballads. Without a doubt, everyone in the event space enjoyed listening and having a dance-along with these artists!

As the set wrapped up, the band ended on a solid final note, which had left everyone anticipating more of their musical prowess. Girl Scout’s performance was certainly worth every second. Come back soon to Leeds. Skål!
